You’ve made it to Month 3! 🙌
By now, your baby is slowly transforming from sleepy potato to alert, expressive mini-human. You might get more giggles than grunts, more coos than cries, and—if the stars align—longer stretches of sleep (okay, slightly longer).
This is the month where everything feels just a little bit easier… until the next growth spurt. 😅 Let’s dive in!
✅ Developmental Milestones to Watch for
🦴 Motor Skills & Coordination
- Better head control 🧠 – Still bobbly, but way more stable!
- Pushes up on arms during tummy time – Welcome to the baby plank club.
- Opens and closes hands 👐 – Might even reach for a toy (or your nose).
💡 When to chill: Babies develop strength at their own pace. Just keep doing regular tummy time and celebrate the micro-wins.
🚨 When to call the pediatrician: If baby shows no head control, seems extremely floppy or stiff, or doesn’t move arms/legs equally.
🧠 Cognitive & Sensory Development
- Tracks moving objects smoothly – Those black-and-white flashcards? Still useful.
- Recognizes familiar faces and voices 👩👧 – Cue the excited kicks when they see you.
- Begins to show interest in surroundings – Lamps, fans, and ceiling corners are still a big hit.
💡 When to chill: Not every baby is ready for sensory toys or books just yet. Watching you is the entertainment.
🚨 When to call the pediatrician: If baby doesn’t follow moving objects or seems uninterested in people or surroundings by the end of the month.
💕 Social & Emotional Growth
- Smiles on purpose! 😄 – Not just gas this time. It’s real and you earned it.
- Cooing, gurgling, and vocalizing – The baby babble stage begins. Enjoy the symphony!
- Responds to affection and may imitate facial expressions 💋
💡 When to chill: Some babies are more observant than chatty. Watch for other signs of engagement like eye contact and body movements.
🚨 When to call the pediatrician: If baby isn’t making sounds, doesn’t smile socially, or seems unusually passive or unresponsive.
🍼 Feeding & Sleep Patterns
- Feeds every 3–4 hours – Whether breastfed or formula-fed, routines may be forming.
- Longer nighttime stretches possible (some 5–6 hours at a time!) 💤
- Alert playtime after feeds – Hello, wake windows!
💡 When to chill: Every baby’s sleep and feeding rhythm is unique. Don’t stress if yours isn’t “by the book.”
🚨 When to call the pediatrician: If your baby is losing weight, has trouble feeding, or is still sleeping so much that feeds are being missed.

📝 Final Thoughts
Three months in, and you’re starting to feel like a seasoned pro (on some days, anyway). Your baby is changing fast, and so are you. You’re no longer just surviving—you’re beginning to thrive together.
Take the video. Record the coos. And remind yourself: you’re doing a beautiful job. Even on the weirdly loud, suspiciously quiet, and sleep-deprived days.
